A poem from a long time ago

This is something I wrote a long time ago and I just found it so I hope its enjoyable! :)

You know i thought i seen a connection
But now i doubt the affection
Maybe my friends were right
It was nothing but lust at first sight
They tell me live life to its fullest
But i can't tell what's true and what isn't
I guess I can't balme you, whatever
Which is why i guess i am writing this so called "letter"
Don't worry love this isn't all that intense
I guess I just needed a sense
A sense of comfort that i have no idea if i will ever get
Now as i close i just want you to know
Know that one moment we shared was imense
It meant something to me
And i hope it meant something to you

Media

So, it's amazing how i seemingly plug in my music in my ears and its like American idol with people all around me being Simon Cowell JR. Seriously people, i listen to the music i want to and that is what determines how "cool" or "uncool" I am? This is just utterly ridiculous.

Why is it that music or clothes or even facial appearances is what determines how i look in others eyes? You know its amazing how much of an impact the media has on music and really every aspect of life. What happens is that the media(various corporations) say "Hey lets promote this artist, or brand of clothing or this hair color" and what ends up happening is that it makes them more main stream and people start to catch on like wild fire.

Today teens are the epicenter of this mass media race to be on top. In the video merchants of cool it really explored how this can really be a negative impact. Shows with sex driven hormones as the main focus led to increase in teen promiscuity, belly's being shown in 'Dawson's Creek' led to little 11 and 12 year old girls showing their stomachs to boys who could probably care less.

We see how the media searches and hunts for these trends and then blows them way out of proportion. For a more recent example look at pre-teen pop sensation Hannah Montanah or Miley Cyrus. She started off as this adorable little offspring of country sensation Billy Ray Cyrus, who landed a role in Disney's hit show Hannah Montanah. Before she was your average 13 year old girl, and now because of media overload she has been shot up the celebrity ladder. I h ave a little seven year old sister and all she ever wants is Hannah Montanah. Why? Because that's all she ever sees on TV. Its no more Barney, Teletubbies, Bear in the Big Blue House but now The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montanah, High School Musical and etc.

Its kind of saddening that the media does this because now we have no idea if the people on top are the direct effect of the media or just an add-on or continuation of what they already had going. In merchants of cool the question was asked if we are mimicking what the media is doing or if they are mimicking what we are doing. I think i have an answer for that question, that would be both. We see what the media records of ourselves and once we see that we strive to be better because we think that is not us. Really what this is is an spiral of destruction. That sounds a bit extreme but what if things continue? What if we go into an oblivion of no return due to the aspects of the media and how we let it affect and really control our lives?

Maybe I have a high sensitivity for the media and its negativity's but at the same time you have to be careful about these things so that you don't get sucked in as well. This really forces you to look outside the box. In the words of high school musical "Get cha head in the game!" the game of media that is! :)
